Social Venture Partners (SVP) is one of the world’s largest global networks of philanthropist-innovators: 9 countries, 43 chapters, and over 3600 partnerships. I was both a communications director and designer for the network’s galvanizing hub, SVP International (SVPI), driving new goals in brand management, marketing, and global affiliate relations. My comprehensive work spanned all design and marketing initiatives, elevating partner recruitment, global affiliate collaboration and events, sector education, and financial strategy.

The Philanthropy Curriculum

The Philanthropy Curriculum distills over 20 years of SVP’s knowledge of global philanthropic practice: Nine courses on the most critical and emergent topics, designed for large and small group implementation, online or in-person. I collaborated with instructional designers for two years to develop the user experience, visual design, testing and marketing of all the courses: facilitator guides, presentations and other course collateral, as well as associated web and digital work — sub-sites, asset management and related promotions.

Chapter-based knowledge-sharing is the SVP network’s bedrock, and by 2016 a redesign of its inter-chapter news stream was long overdue. I developed hundreds of custom designs — animations, illustrations, icon sets, infographics, affiliate chapter-use tools and more — as well as authored long and short-form written pieces, all of which composed the bulk of the publication for nearly three years. According to a veteran SVP CEO: “The best communication this network ever produced. Ever.”

The Social Venture Partners global network of philanthropist-innovators has gathered annually for over 20 years, convening thousands of partners from 43 affiliate hubs in 9 countries. In 2018 I helped SVP International’s benchmark event shed its diminutive “conference” title and align the network’s brand to the size of its reach. From custom chapbooks with audience activities to a mobile app, website and communications design, this event was a top-to-bottom redesign. 2018’s success fueled growth of the following year’s event with an expansive custom website.

In an ongoing effort to personalize SVP stakeholders’ experience of the network brand and connect with them in an ever more visual world, countless numbers of illustrations and other custom assets were created.
